Join Our Newest Quest For Managers
Hi Grand Fam,
Our newest Quest on Becoming an Effective Manager kicks off in November and we can’t wait to tell you more about it.
I remember early in my career, when I thought about how to level up my own management skills, I didn't know who to turn to. It was hard to reach out to my own manager or peers internally because I didn't want them to lose faith in my ability to manage. Many of us have been there before. It's a universal skill that's important to build, but today there is no great playbook or community to learn from.
Reflecting back on my past management experiences, what I wish I had was:
A safe space to share my past management experiences openly
Resources and frameworks to level-up my management toolkit
A community to share best practices and gain confidence in my new role
That's exactly what we've been hard at work building with our newest Grand Quest on Becoming an Effective Manager.
Over the course of 12 weeks, you'll join a curated peer cohort of 9 other people for bi-weekly group coaching sessions. I’m thrilled to be your facilitator alongside Cristina Georgoulakis. I’ve designed management programs through my role at First Round and have been supporting CEOs and startup executives to level up their own management skills as an executive coach with Reboot.io and Amethyst Ventures. Cristina has managed several teams during her leadership roles at Typeform and Contentful where she built and operationalized teams from scratch. We’re so excited to share with you what we’ve developed.
Each interactive session is 2-hours virtually and you'll gain access to a digital workbook, office hours, an accountability partner, and speaker series. This Quest is for new and existing managers who are finding their stride. This could mean that you recently became a new manager or you have several years under your belt but could use new knowledge and skills to level up as a leader. Our hope is that through Quest, you’re able to add new frameworks to your toolkit, gain the confidence and self-awareness to lead more effectively, and have an impactful community to support you on your journey.
Here’s a first look at our curriculum:
Session 1: Intro To Management
This program starts with a deep dive into what is management and how it’s distinctive from leadership. You'll also define management guiding principles for your team.
Session 2: Uncovering Your Blindspots
In order to understand where you want to go, it's important to know where you're coming from. This session is designed to help you better understand your current management style and uncover your blind spots.
Session 3: Making Feedback Less Painful And More Meaningful
Giving and receiving feedback is one of the biggest challenges we see in management. This session will provide you with frameworks for giving and receiving both negative and positive feedback so that it becomes second nature.
Session 4: Creating Psychological Safety And Building Inclusion
In order to help your direct reports thrive, you need to lay the groundwork to create psychological safety. We'll discuss how to achieve this through user guides, 1:1s and more.
Session 5: Working Together - A Roadmap
As your team grows, it becomes ever more important to work together seamlessly and efficiently. This session is designed for you to create team commitments, optimize meetings for success, and define delegation tactics.
Session 6: Communication Style And Coaching Best Practices
Walk out with concrete ways that you can improve your communication skills. Learn coaching best practices including empathetic listening and asking open and honest questions.
I believe that management is one of the most critical areas of focus for any leader and it’s an honor to create a space for you to reflect, explore, and hone this important skill.
✨Applications close on October 26th, we're looking forward to learning more about you. ✨
