Unblock yourself and your team by learning one critical skill 🧠
Limiting beliefs are false or negative beliefs we have about ourselves or others. And they’re one of the most common obstacles to us achieving our goals. They impact each of us, our teams, and our organizations, but it’s commonly overlooked. If you can better understand limiting beliefs and transform them into energizing beliefs, you can unblock yourself and your teams and create an outsized impact on your organization. 🙌
To break this down even further, there are two ways that limiting beliefs can hold us back:
Limiting beliefs about ourselves: When we’re learning, limiting beliefs about ourselves can prevent us from taking safe risks, experimenting, and leaning into the discomfort of growth.
Limiting beliefs about others: When we form limiting beliefs about others, especially as their manager, we unintentionally block 🙅 their growth. We may be quick to judge them negatively or try to “protect” them from failure.
The first step to transforming your limiting beliefs is simply to build awareness that limiting beliefs exist and to be able to articulate what yours are.
Limiting beliefs may have been helpful because that belief got us to where we are today, but it may not get us to that next level of success.
I worked with a client who had a limiting belief:
“I can’t delegate because my team can’t do it as well as me and it will reflect poorly on me.”
What we discovered was that this belief was actually helpful for her when she was starting her company and was the only person on her team. However, as her company grew 📈 , this belief was no longer helpful because it was holding her back from delegating, which in turn, was preventing her team from developing and growing. We transformed this belief into a more energizing ⚡ one:
“I can delegate to my team because I know they are capable and it will help them grow.”
This new belief allowed her to let go of some control and start trusting her team which helped them grow into their roles and ultimately led the company to achieve even more success. ⭐
